David Patt served as an aide to 48th Ward Alderman Marion Kennedy Volini from 1978 to 1982 and was the Independent candidate for 50th Ward Alderman in 1983.

He was a board member of the Independent Voters of Illinois - Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO), founder of the Jewish Council for Good Government, and a political campaign organizer during the 1970s and 80s, supporting both Democrats and Republicans.

He served as President of the North Town Community Council and of the Jewish Community Council of West Rogers Park and was later President of the Niles North High School PTA.
