I was at a meeting of a community group shortly after Jane Byrne had defeated Michael Bilandic in the 1979 Mayoral Primary election.

I must have been gloating, because a fellow Board member turned to me and said, “David, you don’t understand. She’s nuts!”

I didn’t care. I was just delighted that the Machine lost.
