David Orr's dog

When David Orr ran for 49th Ward Alderman in 1979, he was divorced and didn’t have children.

So, instead of a family picture on his campaign literature, he included a pic of him with his big, furry, dog.

I thought that was a goofy decision until I saw the feedback from voters. They loved it. One guy said, “Wow! I’ve got a dog just like that.”

What wouldn’t have worked in other neighborhoods worked very well in Rogers Park.
