Thinking of Black voters

The Machine showed special respect for the Black community in one instance.

In 2003, the submitted petitions of Mayor Richard M. Daley’s two Black challengers may not have withstood the scrutiny of a challenge, but the incumbent did not file any objections, fearing he would be viewed as having been unfair to Blacks. Besides, he was pretty sure he would win, so there was no sense raising the ire of Black voters.
